Thanksgiving

I had a amazing thansgiving with 2 turkey dinners. I hope you all has a delish supper with really good friends and family.
I am so glad that Bohdan and Abbey had such a good time playing together.
There is a couple things I want to discuss...One is heartworm. this is something that shouldn't be worried about until next April.
The other is that Speed (Duke) had some loose stool. She went from Origen to Acana Prairie harvest. In the past few days because of the loose stool, a sample was sent in and he had some round worms and giardia. The round worms should have been covered from the Interceptor and the Giardia, which causes loose stool, was probably picked up from drinking water from still puddles.
I would like you to take a stool sample in the next time you go and please let me know the results. It is all part of a learning experience for new owners.
Jack and Diva are here for the next 10 days. Jack has been discribed as the sweetest and most lovable lab, full of fun and character, but a very good dog.
Sorry, i haven't posted in a while.

  1. Good I'm going to come and steal Jack, so lock your farm door! I love him!

As for the Origen it caused Bodhan terrible runny stools and when taken off the Origen it has stopped, no sign of any worms in his stool.
I gradually fed him the origen mixed with Eukanuba and he was fine but when he was on only Origen the problems started. He is enjoying Brown rice and ground chicken until tomorrow when we try again to work it in to his food. The Vet gave us some special prebiotic to mix with the rice for 10 days.
Will keep you posted if Bodhan can stomach the Origen!

  2. That's the funny think about the giardia. We have just barely gotten Duke to go for walks and are very particular about him staying away from the puddles (mostly because we don't want our blue carpet, brown). He hasn't been to a leash free park so it is very strange he would have picked this up. In any event, he hates the medicine so I hope we get this nasty parasite the first time. Mind you, he does love getting his paws wiped every time he comes back in from a poop. He is so spoiled!!

  4. OK where do I start. Ok Let's start with comment #1 which is from Boghan. HUMMM! Maybe You should be on the raw food amd this problem I assure you would decrease. So Adrienne call me.
Bev, I think this would also help you, so call me. Duke I knew you were so smart so I pass on my congratulations to you.
This line has always done well on raw food because of the allergies, but in time once they are 1 year we can introduce the Origen. I too am learning.
OK I see we have some more followers. Although some of them have lab pups from different lines from me. I would be so happy for you to share your experiences as well.
Remember, I deal with each line separately, but your feedback is worth a TON of GOLD.

  5. Hi Paula,

Would tonight be a good time to call you, say after 7:00 p.m.? I would hate to disturb you on this beautiful, sunny, fall day. We are going to take Duke down to the Waterfront Walk here in Ajax for a couple of hours.

    Bev.

  6. Abbey had Giardia identified on her first vert visity a few days after we brought her home. She had 2 rounds of meds and is going for a re-test this week. Abbey also had loose stool when she started Origen (but this was also the time when she was dealing with Giardia). On our vets recommendation she is switching over to Origen Large Breed Puppy (rather than the adult) and since we have been mixing her food her poop (knock on wood) has been fine.

  7. I had Duke on Large Breed Puppy and it didn't seem to make a difference but it's hard to know if it was the food or the parasite. Now that he is on the Acana his stool is a little better but he has also been on the meds for Giardia since last Wednesday. Hopefully we only have to have him on the meds once because they weren't cheap but if it makes it better, that's what matters. Let me know how Abbey makes out!!

  9. Bodhan has been on brown rice, minced chicken and the probiotic for a week now. I have slowly put the Origen large breed puppy back into his food and his stool is still fine, he has one more day and he will be on it fully again. It was 5 days after the slow intro of the food that the loose stool started, so we have a few days until we are in the clear.
Will keep you all posted on Bodhan's poop progression!!
